The Nan Flick (originally conceived as This Nan'southward Life) is a 2022 British one-act motion-picture show executive produced by Josie Rourke and written by Catherine Tate and Brett Goldstein. The film stars Tate and Mathew Horne. It is based on the television series, Catherine Tate's Nan, which is a set of four specials that were broadcast between 2009 and 2015, and itself is a spin-off of the television set sketch series, The Catherine Tate Show (2004–2007).

Foul-mouthed and cantankerous London woman Joan Taylor's (Catherine Tate) grandson, Jamie (Matthew Horne), takes her to see the dying sis with whom she had a falling out when they were young women. Nan would rather just have a skillful time, however, and the road trip features many comedic detours alternated with flashbacks to the sisters in their youth.

The film received a resoundingly negative early reception from critics.[one] The Guardian described information technology equally "brutally unfunny", [2] giving information technology one star out of five, The Telegraph as being "as interminable as it is revolting", [3] too application 1/5, while the monthly pic magazine Empire was slightly more positive, calling it "a mostly unfunny endeavour to wring long-class laughs from a character who works meliorate in short doses",[4] awarding ii/5.
Bleeding Cool commented on the film'southward disjointed narrative,[5] with the flashback scenes described every bit "a thoughtful, beautifully shot flow piece fix in London during the state of war", while the much more dominant present-day plot is a "dull-looking road trip from London to Ireland filled with wearisome, tedious irrelevant distractions that injure the brain." The site'south original review of The Nan Movie was entitled "Finding A Much Better Motion-picture show Within",[6] and commented on how no director is credited despite collaboration from Josie Rourke, who has previously directed historical dramas and phase plays. The Guardian's critic too commented on the relative quality of the flashbacks as compared to the other textile.
The later article states that, co-ordinate to its sources, when the original cutting of the moving-picture show was presented to its backers in 2019, the backers were uncomfortable with the wartime storyline. They requested that it exist heavily cut to adapt much more of the present-day plot with the elderly Joan Taylor, whom fans of The Catherine Tate Evidence will recognise. A good deal more than of this material was and then cheaply and hastily shot to supercede the cut footage.

In early 2019, it was first announced that Catherine Tate would exist reprising her part of Joanie Taylor, who first appeared in the sketch series, and afterwards, the spin-off serial, for a feature pic. The projection, directed by Josie Rourke of the 2018 biographical drama, Mary Queen of Scots, announced via Instagram that the flick would exist titled This Nan'south Life.[7] [viii] Matthew Horne reprises his role as "Nan"'s long-suffering grandson, Jamie, as well as Niky Wardley, some other well-known performer within the original series, and Katherine Parkinson. The film is written by Tate and former collaborator Brett Goldstein.[7] Warner Bros. holds the distribution rights in the Great britain.[vii] [8]
After initial filming, the picture was retooled essentially. The film largely took place in 1940s London. Those scenes were scaled back and new footage, greatly expanding the modernistic-24-hour interval road trip sections, was filmed without Rourke at a low-price, with animation sequences besides used to fill any gaps.[nine] [ better source needed ]
The flick was scheduled to be released on June xix, 2020,[10] just was indefinitely postponed due to cinemas being airtight because of the COVID-19 pandemic.[eleven] The trailer and affiche for the film were released on xviii February 2022 with Josie Rourke receiving an executive producer credit and no director credited.[12] The film was released on eighteen March 2022.[13]
